This year we have 2 chosen Charites for the 10k. The Great Western Air Ambuland and the Gloucester Food
Great Western Air Ambulance Charity (GWAAC) is Gloucestershire’s local air ambulance, providing lifesaving pre-hospital care to people in need by air and by road. Founded in 2007, GWAAC has grown from operating 2 cars from a small room in Bristol to being one of the busiest Critical Care Teams in the South West, attending an average of 5 patients a day.
GWAAC’s specially trained team of doctors and paramedics are on call 365 days a year and can be on their way from our base in Almondsbury within 5 minutes of a call. With their specialist skills and equipment, GWAAC’s crew are called to the most seriously ill and injured patients in Gloucestershire. From blood transfusions to roadside amputations, the crew can perform lifesaving interventions at the scene that would usually only be done in an emergency hospital department.
Great Western Air Ambulance Charity receives no day to day government or National Lottery funding, and each mission costs an average of £2,000. Simply put, it is thanks to the kindness and generosity of local people that GWAAC can continue to serve in the local community. Thank you for being there for us so that we can be there for others!
In the year 1st April 2021 to 31st March 2022 Gloucester Foodbank distributed 104.77 tonnes of food and toiletries. Enough food to provide 125,000 meals. 36% of the meals were for children under the age of 16. Our footprint covers Gloucester City and surrounding areas including Churchdown, Longford and Hardwicke.
Without the donations of food, toiletries, and funds from local organisations such as Rotary Clubs including Gloucester Quays, local businesses, groups, churches and individuals we would have been unable to provide the level of support that was needed.
We are very grateful to all the people who donate, put in the effort to raise our profile and donations and the people that volunteer with us weekly, monthly or whenever they can.
You are all hero’s!
